Books by Brad Pattison. It was a very depressing read to say the least.
Yank them away from it. IMO you are wasting your time reading that book, the small nuggets of good information can be found elsewhere in greater detail with a much better flavor. He does believe in aversive methods of training. I like some of his philosophy, like I think that my dog does need to see me as the top dog and be able to trust me that I know what I’m doing and will take care of both of us, but I just didn’t like his aggressiveness with his training methods, like the leash correction.

It’s always interesting to hear their personal points of view and opinions on training, even if I don’t necessarily agree with them.
I was at first drawn to him because of a commercial where he threw a prong collar away but then he put a martingale on a dogs and tugged hard twice for no reason I could see.

Lacy rated it liked it Sep 08, He fails to mention that with treat training, you do progress to not needing treats to help the dog do what braad want. Examples of chapter titles: Raising the Bar and Strengthening the Bond.
A quick search online yielded some bad reviews.
It’s not all bad, but it could be better. Rather than popping and jerking the dogs, it is often better to train inexperienced people to use treats properly to get the paftison to work with them.
He doesn’t fully subscribe to dominance based training – he’s kind of in this weird middle ground along with a couple of other BC schools.

Brad Pattison has been very helpful. I can’t remember exactly what titles I have as they’re a state over in my dorm room, but I know I have a Monks of New Skeet book, a Cesar Millan book, and some old outdated thing I found at my boyfriend’s house that recommends leash corrections and ear pinching and such.
